New Zealand Pre-Wedding Photoshoot | Arrowtown, Isobel Glacier, Alpaca Farm, Lake Tekapo & Mount Cook National Park
A New Zealand Love Story
Yeou Jie & Jacquelyn’s New Zealand pre-wedding shoot moved through an unusually varied stretch of the South Island—from Arrowtown’s golden autumn trees to a helicopter journey into the snow at Isobel Glacier. In between were playful moments with alpacas, the clear turquoise water of Lake Tekapo, and the long mountain roads of Mount Cook National Park. With each stop, the scenery and pace changed naturally, giving the journey a mix of elegance, adventure, and lighter moments together.
Arrowtown
Arrowtown opened the day in warm autumn color. Yeou Jie & Jacquelyn walked beneath rows of golden trees, with fallen leaves covering the path beneath them and sunlight filtering through the branches. Jacquelyn’s layered pale gown moved softly against the rich yellow backdrop, while Yeou Jie’s black suit kept the look clean and classic. They wandered along the tree-lined path, held hands, and paused beneath the canopy for quieter moments together. With so much color already filling the setting, the scene never needed much else. It was a gentle start—bright, seasonal, and unhurried before the landscape changed completely.
It began beneath golden leaves, long before the journey reached the snow.
Isobel Glacier
At Isobel Glacier, autumn disappeared almost instantly. Yeou Jie & Jacquelyn arrived by helicopter and stepped onto an open snowfield surrounded by white ridges and clear blue sky. The helicopter remained part of the experience, appearing beside them before they moved farther into the snow. Jacquelyn’s white gown blended naturally into the landscape, its train tracing across the uneven surface as she and Yeou Jie walked hand in hand. They stayed close against the scale of the mountains, with little around them besides snow, distant peaks, and sky. After Arrowtown’s warm colors, the sudden shift into bright alpine white made this stop feel especially striking.
Alpaca Farm
The alpaca farm brought the mood back down to something much more casual. Yeou Jie & Jacquelyn changed into relaxed outfits and stepped into the paddock, where curious alpacas quickly became part of the portraits. They stood among the animals, leaned in for a closer look, and laughed as the alpacas gathered around them. With dry grass, open fields, and mountains sitting quietly in the background, the setting felt simple and easy. After the formality of wedding attire and the scale of the glacier, this stop was less about creating a grand scene and more about enjoying the animals and whatever happened naturally around them.
Lake Tekapo
Lake Tekapo returned the shoot to a quieter rhythm. Yeou Jie & Jacquelyn stood along the pebbled shoreline with clear turquoise water behind them and low mountains stretching across the opposite side of the lake. Jacquelyn changed back into a white gown and veil, while Yeou Jie kept to a dark suit, creating a clean contrast against the bright water. They walked along the shore, held hands between the stones, and stayed close for softer portraits with little else in the frame. After the playful farm stop, the stillness of the lake gave the story room to settle before the final stretch toward Mount Cook.
Mount Cook National Park
Mount Cook National Park closed the journey with one of New Zealand’s most recognizable combinations: an open road, golden grass, and snow-covered mountains rising directly ahead. Jacquelyn changed into a soft blush gown, bringing a warmer tone into the otherwise cool alpine landscape. She and Yeou Jie walked down the center of the road, held hands, stopped to look back at each other, and settled into the grass as the light lowered around the mountains. Compared with the glacier’s stark white setting, this final chapter felt softer and more grounded. The road gave the story somewhere to go, while the evening light gave it a natural place to end.
From golden trees to alpine snow, every change of scenery felt like another chapter of the same journey.
