New Zealand Pre-Wedding Photoshoot with Lake Wakatipu, Skippers Canyon, Lake Tekapo, Mount Cook, and Omarama Clay Cliffs
A New Zealand Love Story
Sunny and Jess embarked on an unforgettable journey through New Zealand’s breathtaking landscapes for their pre-wedding photoshoot. With its pristine lakes, towering mountains, and dramatic canyons, every moment felt like a scene from a dream.
Their adventure began at the serene shores of Lake Wakatipu, where the still waters reflected the snow-capped peaks surrounding them. Against the deep blue hues of the lake, Sunny and Jess shared quiet, intimate moments, letting the natural beauty amplify their love.
From there, they ventured into the rugged terrain of Skippers Canyon, a place of golden cliffs and winding roads. The vast, untamed wilderness added a sense of grandeur to their photos, capturing both the raw beauty of the landscape and the couple’s adventurous spirit.
Next, they found themselves at Lake Tekapo, famous for its turquoise waters and endless skies. The stunning backdrop, paired with the vibrant lupine flowers in bloom, made for dreamy and romantic portraits. Standing in front of the iconic Church of the Good Shepherd, they embraced, letting the magic of the moment sink in.
Their journey then took them to Mount Cook, New Zealand’s highest peak, where towering alpine landscapes created a breathtaking scene. With the crisp mountain air surrounding them, Sunny and Jess marvelled at the grandeur of nature, their love standing strong amid the towering peaks.
The final stop was the Omarama Clay Cliffs, a hidden gem with dramatic rock formations that looked like something from another world. The towering pinnacles and rugged textures gave their shoot a cinematic feel, making it the perfect conclusion to their pre-wedding adventure.
From tranquil lakes to majestic mountains, Sunny and Jess’s love story unfolded beautifully across New Zealand’s most stunning landscapes. Every location added a new chapter to their journey, captured in breathtaking images they will cherish forever.
Lake Wakatipu
Lake Wakatipu gave Sunny & Jess a bright, open beginning. Against deep blue water, golden tussock, and a long line of snow-capped mountains, they walked across the hillside, spun each other around, and let the wind catch Jess’s gown as they moved. The clear sky made every layer of the landscape feel especially defined, from the lake below to the ridges far beyond it. Later, they came closer to the waterfront and paused by a bench overlooking the mountains. The setting was expansive, but their easy movement kept the first chapter from feeling too formal—a polished start with plenty of energy in it.
The South Island opened wide in front of them, and the day simply kept going.
Skippers Canyon
Skippers Canyon shifted the palette almost completely. Golden ground gave way to snow-dusted ridges and sharper rock formations, surrounding Sunny & Jess with a much more rugged landscape. Jess’s layered gown moved across the uneven terrain as the two of them walked between the slopes, staying close beneath a clear winter-blue sky. The setting felt raw and exposed, with little to distract from the shapes of the mountains around them. Even so, they kept the mood relaxed—holding hands, walking side by side, and taking in the scale of the view rather than trying to overpower it. The result felt dramatic, but never overly staged.
Lake Tekapo & Mount Cook National Park
Around Lake Tekapo and Mount Cook National Park, the journey became a mix of quiet lakeside moments and open-road adventure. Sunny & Jess walked along the stony shore in light-toned outfits before moving into snow-covered woodland and eventually onto a mountain road framed by white peaks. Jess later changed into a deep blue gown, creating a striking contrast against the snow. A glacier lake added another colder, more remote layer to the scenery, with pale water and mountain ice stretching behind them. This part of the shoot felt especially varied—soft by the lake, playful on the road, and more dramatic once the landscape turned fully alpine.
Omarama Clay Cliffs
Omarama Clay Cliffs replaced snow and water with something completely different. Tall, narrow formations rose around Sunny & Jess in warm ochre tones, creating natural corridors that felt almost architectural. They moved between the clay towers in light formalwear, letting the late sun bring out the texture and sharp edges of the landscape. Jess’s pale blue-gray gown picked up the softer tones of the cliffs without disappearing into them, while the narrow passages kept the focus close on the two of them. After so many wide-open mountain views, this setting felt more enclosed and sculptural—a distinctive change of scale before the final stop.
Arrowtown
Arrowtown brought the trip back down to an everyday pace. Sunny & Jess changed into casual layers and wandered around weathered cottages, timber verandas, and old shopfronts, leaving the formal wedding looks behind. They held hands between the buildings, wrapped themselves together in a scarf, sat outside a cafe, and leaned into the kind of small interactions that felt more like a real afternoon out than a portrait session. After the lakes, snowy roads, and towering cliffs, the scale of the surroundings became much more intimate here. It was an easy final chapter—less about finding another grand view, and more about enjoying the town together.
