New Zealand Pre-Wedding Photoshoot | Coromandel Peak, Lake Wakatipu & Queenstown, Skippers Canyon, Lake Tekapo, Mount Cook National Park & Glacier
A New Zealand Love Story
Alyssa & Jerick’s New Zealand pre-wedding shoot moved between mountaintops, lakes, alpine roads, and a glacier, with each stop bringing a different pace to the journey. Coromandel Peak opened with a helicopter arrival and sweeping views over Lake Wakatipu, while Queenstown brought a more relaxed, date-like interlude. From there, they continued through the snow-dusted ridges of Skippers Canyon, the clear waters of Lake Tekapo, Mount Cook’s open roads, and finally the glacier.
Coromandel Peak
Coromandel Peak began with the experience itself: Alyssa & Jerick arriving by helicopter before stepping onto a ridge high above Lake Wakatipu. With golden tussock underfoot and layers of blue water and mountain ranges stretching into the distance, the setting needed very little embellishment. Alyssa’s white gown and long veil caught the wind as they moved along the ridge, while Jerick’s black tuxedo kept the look classic against the open landscape. They walked, sat together near the edge, and paused simply to take in the view. The helicopter remained close by, tying the portraits back to the sense of adventure that brought them there.
The day began above the lake, with a helicopter behind them and the South Island stretching ahead.
Lake Wakatipu & Queenstown
Back at Lake Wakatipu, the scale became smaller and the mood noticeably softer. Alyssa changed into a dusty pink gown as she and Jerick stayed close along the rocky shoreline, with clear water and snow-lined mountains behind them. From there, they moved into Queenstown itself, trading the quiet lakeside for streets, storefronts, and late-afternoon light. The portraits became more casual too—sitting together, walking through town, and sharing the kind of small gestures that felt closer to a real date than a formal shoot. It was a useful pause between the larger landscapes, grounding the story in the everyday rhythm of the trip.
Skippers Canyon
Skippers Canyon shifted the journey back into the mountains, this time with a rougher and more sculptural landscape. Snow clung to the ridges while patches of golden grass still showed through, creating a strong contrast beneath the clear blue sky. Alyssa returned to a white gown, letting the full skirt move across the uneven ground as she and Jerick walked between the rocky slopes. They stayed close against the scale of the canyon, pausing beside sharp formations and open valleys that made the surroundings feel especially expansive. Compared with Coromandel Peak, this stop felt less polished and more elemental, with the terrain itself setting the tone.
Lake Tekapo
Lake Tekapo brought the pace down again. Alyssa & Jerick stood along the pebbled shoreline with clear turquoise water stretching toward snow-touched mountains in the distance. Alyssa’s soft pink gown picked up the gentle tones of the landscape, moving lightly whenever the breeze came across the lake. They walked along the water, held hands between the stones, and stayed close in quieter portraits where the background was allowed to remain simple. After the sharper terrain of Skippers Canyon, the calm surface and open sky gave this chapter a softer quality. It felt like a place to pause rather than push forward.c
Mount Cook National Park
Mount Cook National Park brought a sense of movement back into the shoot. With snow-capped mountains rising directly ahead and dry golden grass lining the roadside, Alyssa & Jerick stepped into the middle of the open road and let the moment loosen up. In their pink-and-blue formal looks, they walked hand in hand, ran toward the camera, spun around, and leaned into each other without worrying too much about perfect posture. The long road created a natural line toward the mountains, making every bit of movement feel larger. After the quieter lake portraits, this chapter felt lively and spontaneous—a proper road-trip moment framed by one of New Zealand’s biggest landscapes.
Glacier
The glacier gave the final chapter its clearest sense of contrast. Alyssa returned to a white gown while Jerick wore a deep blue suit, standing together along the rocky shore as chunks of ice floated across the pale water behind them. The mountains rose sharply on either side, making the setting feel both bright and remote. Their movements became quieter here—holding each other beneath the veil, standing close beside the water, and letting the ice formations take up more of the frame. After a day filled with movement and changing scenery, the glacier felt like a natural place to slow everything down and let the landscape carry the ending.
From the first flight to the final stretch of ice, every stop gave the journey a different rhythm.
