For Dorothy & Huang Yun, the plan was to experience three very different sides of Japan within one shoot — traditional, scenic, and modern.
We started in Kyoto, focusing on torii gates and temple surroundings. They chose to do a kimono shoot, which worked naturally with the strong red tones of the location. This part of the shoot was more structured — using the lines of the gates and architecture to guide compositions. We also planned for quieter timing to avoid crowds, allowing them to move through the space more comfortably.
From there, we moved to the Mount Fuji area, including Chureito Pagoda. This was a clear shift in both space and mood. Compared to Kyoto, the setting became more open and minimal. With Fuji visible in the background, the compositions were simplified — focusing more on the couple against the landscape rather than the environment itself. This helped create a strong contrast from the earlier scenes.
In the evening, we continued in Shinjuku, Tokyo. This was intentionally planned to bring in a modern, lifestyle element. The neon lights, street crossings, and night atmosphere made this part feel more like a date than a photoshoot. It added movement, energy, and a different kind of realism to the overall gallery.
Overall, this shoot was built around contrast — colour and structure in Kyoto, openness in Fuji, and energy in Tokyo — while keeping the experience smooth and enjoyable throughout.
