Bali Honeymoon Photoshoot: My Post-wedding Trip

Cherie blogs about her post-wedding photo shoot experience in Bali. We share with you snippets of her experience. For the full details, visit her blog rieriecupcakes on Dayre. For the portfolio of her photographer, Aria, visit his profile Lightshell on OneThreeOneFour

J and I decided to have this photoshoot over our short holiday in Bali, because - as mentioned in an erstwhile Dayre post sometime last week - we haven't had the chance to have professional portraits taken, other than very hurriedly in a few snatched minutes on our wedding day.

Actual photo shoot day

At 2am, 2 MUA/hairstylists came to our villa to prepare us for the shoot! This costs about USD$50 in addition to the photography fees.

After make-up and hair were done, Aria and his second photographer Ketut came to pick us up from our villa. They're both really nice, friendly people and they even brought us buns and stopped at a servo for us to buy coffee and snacks. Aria's studying at RMIT in Melbourne, so we had a grand ol' time chatting about our favourite ramen and coffee places, etc.

We took a 2-hour ride (from our villa in Seminyak) to Lake Tamblingan, which is sort of in the middle of Bali. When we arrived at 5:30am it was still really dark, so I didn't have any idea what it looked like, but as the sun began to rise I was blown away by the stunning beauty!

We had photos taken in several locations: 🚣🏻 On the lake itself, in a boat, on a floating platform and on some rocks by the lakeshore, 🌾 Walking through the fields 🏯 At a Balinese temple, 🌺 On a narrow footpath with flowers along the way and 🌳 in a jungle clearing

Finding the right photographer - Lightshell

“Photography is by Aria Aryana and Tutde Darmawan of Lightshell Photo. They've done such a splendid job and I can't recommend them enough! It was an overall wonderful experience and we just love the photos.”

I was browsing a list of Bali photographers when I came across a photo of a place that looked strikingly familiar - St Kilda pier in Melbourne, my home away from home. (Melbourne, that is, not the pier!) I found out that this photographer was based in both Bali and Melbourne, so I felt a connection to him already!

The company is called Lightshell Photography, and I felt pretty happy with the package they were offering, which was the best out of my searches thus far. Plus, they were also based in Melbourne, so score!

I corresponded with Aria and made the arrangements (also requesting for a MUA), and that was it - really simple and fuss-free. Payment was made directly to OneThreeOneFour, and they will release the money to Lightshell 3 days after the shoot.

#dayrebrides in Melbourne and/or Bali, please consider them!

With our lovely photographers, Aria and Ketut!

OneThreeOneFour - It's easy and safe

#dayrebrides, have you heard of OneThreeOneFour? It's like AirB&B, but for photography! So you can search different cities for photographers, have a look at their prices, and contact them all on one platform without having to email each individually!

Whilst Googling for potential photographers, I came across OneThreeOneFour, which is a platform sort of like AirB&B, but for photography companies instead of accommodation

The website was pretty useful, as it allowed me to compare packages and prices across various companies, without having to individually send emails to each one.

While I can't vouch for the trustworthiness of every company on it, I must say my experience thus far has been pretty good. I found it helpful to search for a photographer in Bali, especially as I have no ground experience there. Knowing that the companies on OneThreeOneFour have been curated also sets my mind a little more at ease!

When you book, you pay the fees to OneThreeOneFour, not to the photography company of your choice - and the fees get released to the photography company only three days after your photoshoot. I found most companies I contacted to be quick with their responses, polite and helpful with suggestions.
